Frequently Asked Questions

  • New Leaf Tax provides expert solutions to taxpayers across the nation. Our goal is to relieve you of your tax burden by negotiating on your behalf with the IRS or state tax authorities. Once you hire us as your power of attorney, you can expect the peace of mind of knowing your debt is being handled by the best in the business. That means putting to work over a decade of experience to implement a successful strategy that you are regularly apprised of until the resolution of your case. Results are just as important as our bedside manner, which means you can also expect a considerable reduction in your liability.

  • Our main focus is to determine if we can truly help you. There are several unscrupulous companies in the tax relief industry and it is our pleasure to be one of the few good companies. We will take care to listen to your problem and see if we are a good fit. We’ve heard thousands of clients detail their situation, so it’s easy for us to determine if we can help you in about a quarter of an hour. You can look forward to an absence of high pressure sales tactics—our confidential call will be simple and easy. We will do our best to provide you with value during our call even if you don’t end up hiring us as your power of attorney with the tax authorities.

  • The reviews are a great place to start. Our approach to tax resolution is not revolutionary: we do what we say, we say what we do, and we care. We know each client takes a leap of faith when they hire us and we take that responsibility very seriously. It’s not enough to say that each client is treated like they are our only client. When you hire us, you are putting the whole weight of your tax debt on our shoulders, and we are honored to relieve you of that stress and then deliver an outstanding result.

  • Some companies will claim to reduce your debt to pennies on the dollar, or 1% of what was owed. Those are bold claims and are often why some people consider the tax relief industry to be illegitimate. The truth is, if someone is claiming a specific result, they are selling you snake oil. What’s worse, some companies will not only guarantee a specific result, but they’ll do so without even doing a financial assessment. Honesty is always the best policy, so we’re never going to guarantee a certain result. The tax authorities ultimately decide who qualifies for what. What we can guarantee, though, is that you will be in good hands and that our primary goal is to save you as much money as possible. We guarantee we will do everything in our power to provide value and earn your business. Our highest reward is your praise and hopefully a future life well-lived, without your tax burden.

  • Yes! We specialize in all tax resolution, including federal and state tax liabilities. Typically when there is an issue with the IRS, there is an issue with the State Tax authorities as well. Both debts need to be addressed simultaneously for an effective resolution strategy, so it’s important to know the nuances for each state. Many large tax resolution companies struggle to navigate the complex state tax codes but we relish the opportunity to relieve the stress of both IRS and state tax burdens.

  • As a matter of fact, most of our clients live in other states or outside the country. If you choose to hire New Leaf Tax, we can represent you as your power of attorney in all fifty states (and expats, too).

  • Yes, absolutely! After we do a brief assessment to determine which returns need to be filed, we will help you get all past due tax returns prepared and filed. A good portion of our clients have not filed for some time, so we take pride in not only resolving your debt, but making sure the tax bill is right in the first place.

  • Maybe! The IRS has expanded the provisions in recent years which greatly increased the success of Offer in Compromise applications. Each case is different and will need to evaluated thoroughly before any determination can be made on the odds of a successful Offer. The criteria can be tricky, too—you might qualify for an Offer when it’s submitted and then fall out of the criteria. We’ve successfully negotiated hundreds of Offers for our clients and would be happy to run the numbers to see if you might qualify. Contact us today for a free consultation.

  • Yes! We specialize in stopping wage garnishments, often getting a release within hours. There are some State Tax Authorities where a release can be tricky but most IRS garnishments can be stopped very quickly. Contact us today if you have a garnishment and need it released.

  • Yes. Their visit is always preceded by a slew of notices to the address on record advising a taxpayer that the debt exists and may include a pop-in to your business or residence. But they can definitely show up and will do so to rattle your cage. Ideally you have hired representation and can simply advise the agent to go through your designated power of attorney. But if you have not hired anyone, it’s best to be polite and advise that you plan to retain competent representation in the future and to refer all questions to your power of attorney.
